Our first MCS golf tournament was held on September 11, 2005, at Maples of Ballantrae Golf Course. We were blessed with excellent weather on that day - bright sunshine, clear skies and a light breeze, everything perfect for a round of golf.
There were 28 golfers, with a good mix of men and women. Everyone arrived the golf course early. Some visited the driving range whilst others practiced their putting on the putting green. Although the golfers were of different playing ability, everyone enjoyed the day.
Dinner and prize presentation was held in the evening at Golden Regency Restaurant in Markham (see separate report on Mahjong and dinner) . Prizes were awarded to the following :
Longest Drive, Men’s : Ryan O’Connor
Longest Drive, Women’s : Lulu Yui
Closest to the Pin (hole #6) : Peter Beca
Closest to the Pin (hole # 14) : Kathy King
Low-Scramble Team : Peter Yeung, Patrick Lai, Edgar Pang and Eric Chan
Most Honest Team : Lulu Yui, Michael Pun, Helena O’Connor and Joyce Li
There was also lucky draw for all golfers where everyone received some golf related prizes. We would like to thank the committee members who donated the prizes and special thanks to Mr. Tommy Tam (CGTF), who donated golf lessons to ‘winners’ of the Most Honest Team. We welcome more to join us in our next golf tournament.
Dinner was held at Golden Regency Restaurant, Pacific Mall, Scarborough. Of the 8 tables of diners, one table was for our former teachers of MCS. Can you identify them in the picture?
Over 60 members and friends attended the dinner during which many prizes were given out. Towards the end of the dinner, Patricia Wu gave a brief account of the MCS 80th anniversary dinner celebration held on February 19, 2005 at the Hong Kong Convention Centre in Wan Chai. A short video capturing the highlights of the dinner was shown, kindness of Fernanda Pinna Ho who had it couriered over from Vancouver.
The management of the school will be handed over to the newly established Maryknoll Foundation in August 2005. For details, please visit the website http://mcs.hk/
More than 250 MCS former students from all over the world attended the three-day event with Sisters Jeanne Houlihan and Rose Duchesne from Hong Kong and Joan Delaney from Chicago. Do watch out for a more detailed account of the event in the coming issue of our newsletter. The following photos are just a taste of the wonderful time we all had, thanks to the New York Organizing Committee.
